Obituary for Helen Dorothy Elder (Thomas)

Helen Dorothy Elder of Aberdeen passed away at Pacific Care Center on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, 2 days before her 99th birthday. She was born June 29, 1919, in Seattle Washington to Joseph and Dorothy Thomas. She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1939.
On June 5, 1940, Helen married Cecil Elder at the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen. They had been married 72 years before Cecil’s passing. Helen was a member of South Aberdeen Baptist Church, past president of AARP, nursing home ombudsman and volunteered many hours throughout the years.
Throughout Helen’s life, she enjoyed doing many different crafts, such as; sewing, quilting and ceramics. She and Cecil belonged to a square dancing club and pinnacle group. She liked to travel with their travel trailer. She always enjoyed road trips, especially on Sundays after church. Helen loved spending time with her family, as well as working in her yard.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Jim) Price of Tacoma, Cecille (Don) White of Olympia and Joanne (Mike) Poitras of Aberdeen; 6 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, daughter, Cheryl Elder and a sister, Rose Swiergula. Mom was a loving, devoted wife and mother, grandma and great grandma.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 1pm at South Aberdeen Baptist Church. She will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. Memorials may be made to South Aberdeen Baptist Church Roof Project, 620 Fordney, Aberdeen.
Our mom is with our Savior Jesus Christ and her husband, which is where she wanted to be. Praise the LORD!
