Obituary for Pauline Love Edwards (Love)

Pauline Love Edwards (Love)
Pauline Love Edwards

Lifelong Harborite Pauline Love Edwards passed away on October 20, 2012, at Karr House in Hoquiam. She was born on May 29, 1920, in Aberdeen to Otto and Josie Love. She graduated from Aberdeen High School, Class of 1938.
Pauline married Grant Edwards on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1947, in Aberdeen. They remained happily married for the next 65 years.
When Grant joined the service, she traveled with him to several bases for the next 20 years. When he retired they returned home to Aberdeen to a house they bought on their wedding day, and lived there until her health required her to move to Karr House.
Pauline worked for a time at Westport Salmon Charters, designed custom drapes for Kaufmann Scroggs, and modeled clothes at Pearson’s Department Store. Not only was she an accomplished seamstress, she was a creative art person. She enjoyed ceramics and had her own workshop and kiln. She became an amazing landscape artist, and even after macular degeneration destroyed most of her eyesight, she continued painting, only an inch or two that she could see at a time. A neighbor remarked once, upon seeing her artwork, “I can’t imagine how good you would be if you could see!”
She was a member of the Westport VFW Auxiliary.
Pauline especially enjoyed weekends at their cabin in Tokeland and loved the Shoalwater Bay Casino’s Sunday Brunch.
Pauline loved animals and adopted several strays, the last one “Daisy”, described by her husband as the “meanest little mutt” (probably because she bit him every time he got to close to Pauline). That dog adored Pauline.
Pauline was a gracious lady, with a beautiful smile and sly sense of humor which made it more difficult to accept when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer ’s disease, forgetting her friends, family and husband.
The family is grateful to Karr House for the care Pauline was given the past few months of her life.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul and Rudy Love; and sisters, Lucille Muncil and Ruby Berlin.
She is survived by her husband, Grant, at that family home; son, Terry Grant Edwards of Cosmopolis; daughter, Maureen Skow of Anacortes; and granddaughters, Kim Padgett of Anacortes, Erin Soucy of Mt. Vernon, Kathy Stone of Burlington, and Shawn Soucy of Phoenix, Ariz.
At her request there will be no services. Memorials may be made to PAWS of Grays Harbor.
