Obituary for Richard Anthony "Rick" Quandt

Richard A. Quandt
August 3rd, 1956- July 26th, 2022

Rick took his final chairlift ride to heaven after skiing double black diamond runs all day in his mind.
Rick was an expert skier who tried out for the Olympics and was a ski instructor in Park City, Utah.
His goal was to ski 100 resorts in his lifetime. Including Jackson Hole, Big Mountain, Whistler, Banff, and Tahoe to name a few.
He loved to cruise and had 26 cruises under his belt and 169 days at sea. He could sleep through very rough waters and thought it was great to put you to sleep, while I wondered if the ship was going to capsize.

He loved outrunning hurricanes. He’d put on his life jacket, hang on to the railing and spit water out of his mouth.
Fly fishing was his other love. Not saying we had fish for dinner very often as he was catch and release. “It’s all in the wrist” as he would say.

He took a float plane to Admiralty Island to fish on a tour with a guide and was greeted by a brown bear. Rolling in the marsh and mud to disguise his scent. Again, no fish. Meanwhile, his wife was in a panic the float plane had left him there, hearing that the plane had to go back as a grizzly was there and the guide didn’t have enough firepower. The guide told Rick it must have been a tourist because he had never seen one that big. He came back and was so excited he saw a seven-foot bear and said it was GREAT seeing it in the wild, standing on his hind legs and baring his teeth.

He walked on glaciers in Alaska, did dog mushing, and helicopter rides. He traveled to Tahiti, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, Alaska, Canada, and New England.
Rick would get in the water and swim with manta rays, sea lions, and dolphins. There was no fear from him, while his wife would tell him she would take pictures.

He was kind, loving, had a great sense of humor, very fair and the best husband ever. Always said “thank you for saying yes” to the response of “thank you for asking”.

We went car shopping like Bubba and Sugarbabe. I blacked out my front two teeth, wore a T-shirt that said “Objects under this shirt are larger than they appear” and had pigtails with twine ribbons. He told the salesman he had to have an orangesicle milkshake to think about it from this little restaurant in White Center. We kicked tires and acted dumb. We asked if they could put country western music on while we test drove it. We were singing.
The salesperson was so irritated. I was asking for a free tank of gas and Bubba said yeah cuz we need those freebies. The guy asked if we had a down payment. Bubba said, “Hey Sugarbabe you got those mason jars?” “In the trunk Bubba”. Rick had a great sense of humor. We loved to mess with people in a good way.

He wrote beautiful poetry, had a beautiful singing voice and would buy flowers every payday. He always had beautiful yards and landscaping.

He always looked like he just stepped out of the shower. He had a smile that would light up a room. Which came in handy during power outages.

He loved his golden retriever Doogan Bueller (because we bought him on our day off). Doogan passed away and he wanted a “twinkie” dog. So, he received his Corgi and named him Shorty Maddog Malone. They were buds.

Rick loved Star Wars, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Forrest Gump. Would say “Tanya and me was like peas and carrots”.

Now for the part that everyone is telling me not to forget.
He was on American Bandstand. Yup, he really was. He was taken there by Famous Hooks. He was so happy Nixon resigned and it preempted American Bandstand and he wasn’t seen in the spotlight dance.

At restaurants, he would put the reservations under Armando. They would call for Armando table for two. He would say "Tis I, Armando and I am here to whoooo you.

Two children from a previous marriage, Megan and Trevor.

His great friends were Brett, Greg, Frank, John, Larry, Tonya, Vera, and Bonnie.

He is loved and missed dearly by his wife Tanya, they were married for 19 wonderful years.

Don’t worry Bubba, someday we will be together again and be in the spotlight dance. Nixon is out of office. (wink)

He was put to rest in his ski clothes. Nothing like long johns in 90-degree weather but I know that would be what he wanted.

He would probably not want to bring up work history, who wants to talk about work? But, here goes, UPS, DHL/Airborne, and casino.
What can brown do for you? (UPS) Brown did a LOT for me. (it’s from a commercial)

I have followed his wishes exactly. Speaking of wishes and dreams he wanted his ashes spread in a location near and dear to him. A heartfelt thank you for the love of Rick that two of his dear friends will make that possible. I will be eternally grateful for this. Of course, it isn’t an easy spot to get to. I had asked him how can I do that, he said, “then just put me in the backseat and I can go everywhere with you”. Yeah, that won’t happen. Sorry love. You will be in your first choice.
Our song was “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri.
Any donations please make to “Old Dog Haven” at olddoghaven.org, please, in his name.
No flowers please, he left me with enough weeding to do.
Does anyone know a good landscaper?
Thank you for a wonderful life. See ya later Tator. Rest easy and I love you.
