Obituary for Barbara Kay Huffman

Barbara Kay Huffman passed away on Sunday, July 17th, 2022 at the age of 77. She was born
on December 29th, 1944 in Aberdeen, WA to Ralph and Josephine Olson. She was raised in
Hoquiam, WA and graduated from Hoquiam High School class of 1963. She also attended
Grays Harbor College where she received her AA Degree. 
On March 25th,1967 Barbara married Walter Huffman in Aberdeen. They were married for 55
years and had two children; Keith and Renae. In their early years of marriage, Barbara and
Walter enjoyed dancing and listening to the Beachcombers. 
Barbara dedicated more than 30 years to the Community Action Program and the Grays Harbor
Senior Centers. Barb loved greeting and talking to all the seniors daily when they came in for
lunch. She was instrumental in organizing annual auctions and other fundraisers to raise money
to support senior programs.  
Barbara enjoyed spending time with family and close friends. She loved holidays with extended
family as well as shopping and lunches out with her best friends. She adored her grandchildren,
who knew her as ‘Grandma B’. 
Barbara is survived by her husband, Walter at their home in Olympia; children Keith Huffman of
Elma, WA, and Renae (Ryan) Penner of Eagle, Idaho; grandchildren Zachary and Dillon Penner
as well as several cousins and many wonderful friends. She is preceded in death by both her
parents and sister, Sharon Olson.
She will be remembered for her kindness, community service, and for being an amazing friend
and coworker to so many.  
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels Program: Hoquiam Senior Center, 703 Simpson
Ave Box 4 (MOW), Hoquiam, WA 98550 (Checks payable to CCAP). 
A celebration of life will be held in honor of Barbara on Saturday, August 13th at 1 pm at the
Aberdeen Senior Center (formerly Aberdeen Eagles), located at 208 West Market St, Aberdeen
WA 98520.
