Obituary for Wayne Marvin Calhoun

After 88 years of a well-lived productive life, Wayne Marvin Calhoun, passed away peacefully on May 25th, 2022 at his home in his recliner surrounded by his wife and daughters. Wayne was born on May 22, 1934, in Bruce, Wisconsin, to Lulu and Donald Colquhoun, the youngest of four children.
He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his humorous and playful personality, but he will especially be remembered for his honesty, passion in his beliefs, work ethic, unconditional love, and dimples.
Wayne has lived in Montesano, WA since he was 8 years old. He was voted “Best-Loved Eighth Grader” by his classmates, and later the student body president of the Montesano High School Class of 1952. There, the basketball and the football player fell in love with his cheerleader, Nora Trautman.
On October 10, 1953, he married “the prettiest little thing you ever did see,” and these adorable high school sweethearts, Wayne and Nora, enjoyed over 70 wonderful years together, finding humor in life always, even in the most difficult times. Their love story was one to rival that of his favorite Republicans, Ron and Nancy.
Throughout his life he wore many hats. He worked at Reddi Gas Co. of Aberdeen, New York Life Insurance, Esses Cascara Co, but his career was banking for over 35 years. For decades he was a volunteer fireman including becoming Montesano Fire Chief. He served in the Naval Reserves and was a member of the Montesano City Council, the Methodist Church, the Eagles and Elks Club.
Wayne loved being outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, clam digging, tending to his beautiful yard, or picking little wild blackberries for those delicious pies that Nora baked. He adored his wife’s baking and cooking! While indoors, Wayne relaxed in his recliner as King of the ‘clicker’ watching sports and his old-time favorite show, Gunsmoke.
For the past 22 years, Wayne and Nora wintered in Desert Hot Springs, CA where Wayne loved swimming, hiking in the desert, driving Nora to her favorite stores, and cocktail hour with cheap whiskey.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Nora (Trautman). Wayne also leaves behind his daughters, Cindy (Steve) Wincewicz, Connie (Todd) Hull, and Karla (Jerry) Coghlan. Papa’s legacy will live on through his grandchildren, Ryan (Tjuana) Seidl, Kevin Seidl, Amy Fuller, Keegan (Pook) Wincewicz, Darin (Kristina) Hliboki, Karley (Joshua) Weinstein, Mark (Lisa Thai) Seidl, McKenzie Wincewicz, Erin Coghlan, Hilary (Chris) Ells, and Riley Coghlan and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous – and we mean numerous – nieces and nephews.
Wayne was preceded in death by his siblings Myron Hawley, Helen Calhoun and youngest sister, Barbara (Denny) Lougheed. He is reunited in Heaven with his son, Kevin Calhoun, and grandson, Christopher Calhoun.

A graveside service will be held at the Montesano Cemetery with immediate family only. We will end this obituary as he ended his phone calls. . . so when you comin’ down? Thanks for calling! I bet you want to talk to Mom/Grandma. . . .
