Obituary for Delbert Leroy "Bud" Restau

Delbert Leroy “Bud” Restau passed away at the age of 86, surrounded by family on May 25th, 2022 at his home in Montesano. He was born to Jessie and Roy Garrison on September 24th, 1935 in Aberdeen, Wash. He was raised in Cosmopolis. He was a descendant of some of the earliest settlers of Grays Harbor County.

Bud would have graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1954 but left school early to enter the Marine Corp in 1953. He served 3 tours overseas, staying in the Marines for 9 years.

Bud was a lifetime construction worker. He worked for Friend and Rickalo, and Snelson Company out of Sedro Wooley, as well as Oregon and S.W. Washington Labors training school for many years. He had to retire at the age of 68 due to partial blindness.

On June 10th, 1989, Bud married Betty McOmber in Arlington, Wash. They were married for just under 33 years before Bud passed away.

He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corp League #442, Elks and American Veterans, as well as a 50-year member of the Laborers International Union.

Bud enjoyed digging and eating clams, golfing, bowling in his earlier days, playing pinochle, attending the M.C.L. meetings and get-togethers, making wine, and working around his home. He was also an avid reader. He enjoyed working on projects around the family property with his grandson Brandon, teaching him a lot about construction.

When Brandon was young they would play with toy cars together, and Bud's favorite car was always the Baby Blue Thunderbird. Being with his family and seeing his grandchildren always brought him a big delight.

Bud is preceded in death by his son Daniel Restau. He is survived by his wife Betty and grandson Brandon Gibson at the family home in Montesano; son Dale (Rhonda) Restau of Lebanon, Oregon; stepchildren Denise (Robert) Shanks of Vancouver, Wash, Cathy (Ray) Zavala of Arizona, Ken Ecklund of Blaine, Wash., and Kimberly Gibson of Aberdeen, Wash.; 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
