Richard Eugene Stevens, Sr (Dad) passed from this life to be with the Lord on May 19, 2020 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA. Dad was born on a farm near Windom, MN on February 6, 1942, the second of five children to Robert Stevens and Veva (Bennett) Stevens. He graduated from Windom High School in 1960 and moved to the Denver, CO area for college. He joined the Church of Christ in Central Denver where he met and married his beloved wife of almost 56 years, Linda Joan (Miles) Stevens (Mom) on June 1, 1964.
He is survived by Mom, children Stephanie Kennedy of Vancouver, WA, Rick Stevens of Bonita, CA, Rachel Stevens of Laramie, WY and Ken Stevens of Elma, WA and six grandchildren, Bethany (Kennedy) Slom, Michael Kennedy, Kevin Stevens, Quinn Stevens-Earl, Olivia Stevens and Kaden Stevens. He is also survived by two siblings Susan Flatgard and Michael Stevens and more loving relatives and friends than we could ever list.
After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado in 1965, Mom and Dad moved to McMinnville, OR where he taught at Linfield College and where Stephanie and Rick were born. In 1969, they moved to Seattle and were founding members of the Westside Church of Christ. Mom’s sister Merrily Jones and family moved to Seattle around the same time and shared happy times together with big family gatherings and children running everywhere. Dad became a homebuilder in Seattle where Rachel and Ken were born expanding the family to six. He enjoyed taking us kids with Uncle John and our cousins to Husky football games or watching Seahawk and Husky games on TV at Aunt Merrily and Uncle John’s house.
In 1994, Dad began purchasing investment property in Elma, WA. A few years later, Dad and Mom moved to a house north of Elma, out in the beautiful green farmland and thick forest of the Olympic Peninsula. He loved driving past the barns, tractors, grazing cattle and row crops that he grew up with. He and Mom have been faithful members of the Shelton Christian Church for almost 20 years. Dad always had a heart for people in need and he quietly gave to his Church and directly to ministries and to people in need. Dad loved his family and was deeply loved. We know that we will see him again soon. He is with Jesus, the one he loved the most.
1 Corinthians 15:55 “O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?”
