Obituary for David Ernest "Dave" Johnson

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of David Ernest Johnson, age 67. David passed away at his home in Westport, WA due to natural causes on April 30, 2020.

David was born to Claude and Echo Johnson in Walla Walla, WA on September 20, 1952. David lost his father when he was 5 years old, then lost his beloved mother at the age of 12. David moved around to several homes in Dayton, Waitsburg, and Walla Walla, but finally settled in Olympia, WA with his lifelong friend, Steve Botts.

Dave learned to work hard from an early age, joining the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. After moving to Randle, WA in 1976, Dave found work in the logging industry. Companies he worked for included Latimer & Sons Logging, Bob Pollman Logging, and Fred B Moe Logging. David also worked for Lewis County Public Works on the road crew.

David and his then wife, Beulah (Holman), started a family in Randle, WA where his beloved daughters Echo (Quarnstrom) and Mellanie (Douthit) were born. They were his pride and joy, and the loves of his life. His greatest accomplishment was becoming a Grandpa. He absolutely adored his grandchildren, and earning the title of "Grandpa Dave."

He had a passion for martial arts, playing music, surfing, the mountains, and the sea. He could play any instrument he picked up. He was always learning new hobbies, and had recently taken up stained glass art. He had a love for animals, and always had a precious dog by his side. He is well known as "Bulldog Dave" in Westport, WA - where he and his bulldog would often be seen skateboarding through town.

For the last 10 years he found a home in Westport, WA. It was there he found peace and gained a community of friends that were like family to him. He always had a wave and a smile for everyone, and made a great impact on the entire community. We will all miss him so much.

David is survived by his daughters, Echo (Brad) Quarnstrom of Rochester, and Mellanie (Joseph) Douthit of Rochester, also by his sister Arlene (Leonard) Morgan of Tumwater, and his 4 Grandchildren - Tate and Piper Quarnstrom, and Kellen and Reese Douthit. He is also survived by 1 nephew and 3 nieces. David is preceded in death by his brother William A. Johnson, and both of his parents.

There will be a traditional farewell paddle out, followed by a luncheon at the Westport, WA VFW. Date is TBD due to COVID restrictions at this time. Friends and family will announce the date once finalized. All are encouraged to attend.
