Obituary for Charles Bernard "Chuck" Herzog

Charles Bernard Herzog of Montesano passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Harborview Medical Center. He was 84. Charles was born on November 18, 1934 to Omar and Grace Herzog in Scrambler, MN. Charles spent his early childhood in Pelican Rapids before some of the family moved to Hoquiam, WA. It was in Hoquiam that he graduated high school and even went on to attend Grays Harbor College for Football.

In December of 1954 Charles joined the United States Navy. He proudly served 4 years on the U.S.S. Hornet and honorable discharged on December 18, 1958. Shortly after he married Shirley Ann Herzog on July 3rd, 1960 in Sequim, WA. She supported Charles throughout his career at Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill all the way through his retirement in 1994.

Charles enjoyed golfing at Oakridge Golf Course, hunting in the Olympic Peninsula, and fishing in the local rivers, especially the Chehalis. He loved sports and stayed actively involved in the Montesano Little League. He coached his son in Little League and Babe Ruth and also served as league President for a year.

Charles is survived by his wife Shirley Herzog of Montesano; son John Herzog of Montesano; daughters Cheri Schrible of Montesano, and Carole Falk of Hemmit, CA; sisters Marge Engebretson of Pelican Rapids and Deloris Peterson of Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Omar and Grace Herzog and siblings Keogh Herzog, Clinton Herzog, Kenneth Herzog, T.J. Herzog, Vince Herzog, Marvel Peterson, Toots Lefluer, and Eloise Issacson.

A celebration of Charles’ life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. With a “toast to Chuck” at 4:00 p.m. at 7 Miller Lane, Montesano.
