Obituary for James Harley Reeves

Beloved father and friend James Harley Reeves passed away peacefully in his sleep March 9, 2019. He was 74. Jim was good-natured, and well-liked by many. He loved vintage cars, old westerns, and being near the ocean. Known for his quirky humor, he could deliver one-liners for hours on end. He enjoyed people, and could make a friend in five minutes. He had friends all over the Pacific Northwest; he and companion Deb Rucker welcomed many of them into their home in recent years.
Jim was born in Bremerton on July 11, 1944, to Bonnie and Clyde Reeves of Poulsbo. He grew up near Port Gamble near the Hood Canal Bridge. That’s where he learned to love the sea and its creatures. He graduated North Kitsap High School in 1962, became a barber, and then served the US Navy until 1966. He was an Environmental Protection Specialist on the Navy’s Trident Submarine Base in Bangor, WA until his retirement in July 2000. Although he lived most of his life in Washington, he traveled to Georgia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Alaska.
Jim is survived by his beloved life partner, Deb; his son Jesse Reeves of Kingston, WA; , daughter Lisa Wylie of Sequim, WA; grandchildren Tyson Reeves, Amanda Reeves, and Jessica Feehan; great-grandchildren Ben, Erin, Sam and Oliver; brother and sister-in-law Sid and Dora Reeves of Poulsbo, WA; sister and brother-in-law Ramona and Paul Stumpf of Lynden, WA; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins, including Sherry and Bob Wojcikowski of Poulsbo, WA.
A celebration of life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Ocean Shores Eagles.
