Obituary for Mavis May Carpenter (Aman)

Mavis May (Aman) Carpenter was born on June 25, 1935 in McIntosh County, North Dakota to Jacob K. Aman and Martha (Miller) Aman and died on March 5, 2019 at Mason General Hospital in Shelton, WA, surrounded by family. She spent her childhood on a farm near Ashley, ND and her family later moved to a farm they bought near Ellendale, ND. She moved to Seattle in the 1960s and was married to William H. Pickert on May 2, 1966 in Seattle, WA. They were married until he died on July 30, 1975. She was married to Ray E. Carpenter on June 14, 1995. The years following were among the happiest of her life. They were married for 17 years and enjoyed traveling and bowling together. He passed away on December 23, 2012 and Mavis lived independently for the rest of her life. Her graveside memorial will be held at 10 am on March 11, 2019 at Wynoochee Valley Cemetery in Montesano. She was preceded in death by six siblings and survived by two siblings. She is survived by her son, David W. Pickert and she was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy, when she was 1 year old. She is also survived by three grandchildren, William Pickert, Felicia Pickert, and Hannah Hensler and two great-grandchildren.
Of her childhood in North Dakota she wrote, “I remember the delicate prairie flowers, the beating winds, the sage brush, and buffalo grass. The prairie air always fresh and clean.”
