Obituary for Douglas Gothard Hoflin

Douglas G. Hoflin, a resident of Ocean Shores for nearly 46 years, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, January 10, 2018, just 2 days before his 77th birthday in Aberdeen, WA.

Doug was born January 12, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington, to Dorothy and Russell Hoflin. He grew up in Montesano, WA and graduated from Montesano High School in 1960. In his high school years he was an avid basketball player and also enjoyed drag racing and playing practical jokes.

Doug moved to Ocean Shores in 1972 with his family where he worked for the city of Ocean Shores Public Works Dept. until the early 1990's. After that, he worked as a land surveyor until retiring in 2004. Doug was a well-known as a skilled pool player for many years attending and organizing pool tournaments locally and in Reno. In his later years, he very much enjoyed fishing and camping with his late wife Janna on the Bogachiel and Hoh rivers. He also enjoyed gardening at their home in Ocean Shores, playing piano and following politics.

Doug is survived by his four children: Jim McCullough of Aberdeen, WA; Leslie (Charley) Capoeman of Aberdeen, WA; Janice Hoflin of Riverside, CA; and Jonah Hoflin of Port Angeles, WA. He is also survived by his brother, Mike (Sandee) Miner of Palm Desert, CA, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Russell in 1945 who was killed in action during the Battle of the Bulge when Doug was only 3 years old; and his mother, Dorothy Miner, who passed in 2010. His wife, Janna Hoflin, also preceded him in death in 2012.

A graveside gathering of family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2019 at Wynooche Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary in Aberdeen/Montesano.
