Obituary for Mary Jeannine Phillips

Mary Jeannine Phillips
1934-2019
Mary Jeannine Martin was born on February 17, 1934 to David and Flora Martin in Oxford, Arkansas. Jeannine’s only sibling, Jerrell Martin passed away in 2007 after serving in the military and a long and distinguished law enforcement career.
As a child, Jeannine’s family moved from Arkansas to Wenatchee, WA. Jeannine attended school there and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1950. Following high school, Jeannine moved to Portland to attend Warner Pacific Bible College, where she was a student from 1951-54.
While attending Warner Pacific, Jeannine met and fell in love with her future husband, Jerry. The two were married in 1954, celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary this past August.
Jeannine and Jerry were blessed with four children; Sherri, Teresa, David, and Mark. Sherri passed away in 2012 and Mark died shortly after his birth in 1962. Teresa and David both reside in Tumwater. They were also blessed with seven grandchildren; Brianna Hornback, Darcy Smith, Corey Marx, Phillip, Kristina, Stephen, and Shawna Bratton, as well as 10 great grandchildren.
Jeannine and Jerry’s ministry began in 1957 and took them to a number of states to pastor churches. Jeannine was very active in the church serving in a number of capacities, to include working with the children and youth, leading the music portion of the worship service, and singing in the choir or as a soloist.
Jeannine had two full-time jobs in the early years of her marriage – that of a mother of three young children and being a full-time pastors’ wife. As her children grew older, Jeannine returned to school where she trained to be a dental assistant. She worked in this capacity for an oral surgeon for several while living in Wichita, KS.
Following retirement, Jeannine and Jerry returned to Montesano where they had developed dear friendships and were active in the Montesano Church of God and community activities.
Jeannine passed away peacefully on January 4th. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, January 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Montesano Church of God with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
