Obituary for Franklin Dolph "Ike" Murray

Longtime Grays Harbor resident Franklin “Ike” Murray, 84, passed away at his home in Elma on Thursday, February 1, 2018. He was born March 4, 1933 in Kimberly, Idaho to Dolph and Sarah Christine (Hamby) Murray.
Ike was raised in Idaho and had also lived in Montana before moving to Grays Harbor, Washington in 1966.
He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War where he received the Purple Heart and National Defense; Efficiency, Honor and Fidelity awards. He also served in the Navy in a Submarine.
On July 8, 1967 Ike married Tavi Jhanson Hurley in Montesano. She survives him at the family home along with their beloved dog Laddie.
He had worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator. He had also worked as a dragline operator at the Centralia Steam Plant and as a operator and flagger at NDC Timber.
Ike was a member of the local Union 612; life member of the V.F.W. Post 1948 and Masonic Wynochee Lodge No. 43.
As a young man he was a bull rider, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping (RVing) and boating. He enjoyed raising animals especially pigs, sheep and dogs.
In addition to his loving wife Tavi, he is also survived by sons Jim Murray of Montana, Rick Murray of Arizona, Lee Murray of Idaho, Bill Hurley of New Jersey; daughters Beth Bailey, Shawnie VanLeeuwen, Chris Boling all of Washington and Ginger Murray of Idaho; 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends of “Uncle Ike”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Darrell and his sister Pat Carter.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 10th at the Elma Grange, 401 W. Waldrip St. in Elma, Washington 98541.
