Lifetime Montesano resident Gerald Lee “Gov” Valentine died peacefully Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 82.

Gerald was born November 1, 1926 at home in the Wynoochee Valley to Silver and Alice (Fry) Valentine. He graduated from Montesano High School in 1945 and was on the winning Football Hall of Fame Team. (Go Bulldogs!)

On September 17, 1948 Gov married the love of his life Ruth “Cupcake” Wolfe at the Montesano Church of God. They were married for 61 wonderful years. She survives him at the family home.

He had also owned and operated the Mobile Service Station on Pioneer Ave., worked at the Montesano Door Plant, had been Superintendent for the Montesano Water Dept., was an original shareholder of Hoquiam Plywood, managed Glenn/Able Fuel Company, and after he retired he drove cars for Valu Ford and Whitneys.

Gov was a former member of Active Club in Montesano, enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and was an original member of the “Corral Gang” up the Wynoochee Valley Donavan Corkery. He enjoyed playing cards and dominos, was a loyal Seahawks and Mariner fan, and avid bowler at Monte Lanes from the beginning until his health declined.

In addition to his beloved wife “Cupcake”, he is survived by daughter, Louise; 2 granddaughters, Rumona (Pehl) & Wyatt Roble; Rugena (Pehl) & Jayson Peterson; 5 great grandchildren, Baylee, Colbey and Alyson Roble; Austin and Ashlyn Peterson, all of Montesano and who were a big part of his life.
