Obituary for Robert O. Iverson
Robert O was born on December 11, 1929 in Longview, WA to Frances and Oscar Iverson. He died at home after an extended illness on July 22, 2009 surrounded by his family.
He grew up in Kelso, Washington and graduated from Kelso High School in 1948. After graduation he joined the US Coast Guard where he served as a damage control man for 3 ½ years. In 1950 he met the love of his life Ellen Marie in Port Angeles. They married in 1951 and moved to Kelso where he was employed by Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill in Longview. They had four children together. In 1957 the whole family moved to the city of Aberdeen to help start up the newest Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill. He worked at the pulp mill for 38 years before he retired in 1989 as a Shift Engineer.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Since his retirement he has made 20 yearly trips to Alaska from May to August, spending time with nieces and nephews on the Kenai and Lake Creek. He then spent hunting seasons in Montana. He kept a steady stream of venison, elk, moose, salmon and Halibut coming, and fed anyone that wanted or needed it. He had a passion for baseball. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth for 13 years. He also coached a few of the grandkids along the way, even if it was from the bleachers.
He was also the founding member and president of the Local Duffy Street Clubhouse. He ruled over its many members for 20 years. Many world problems were solved and lawnmowers fixed.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Ellen Marie and children, Ronald (Sherri) Iverson and Pam Iverson both of Aberdeen. He is also survived by two sisters Mary Dziergas and Betty Blurton of Longview, WA, 12 grandchildren & 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by, a son Robert (Bobby) Iverson, a daughter Jeanette (Nettie) Iverson, and a sister Shirley Borges.
A Celebration of life will be held at the 40 et 8, July 31st @ 2pm.
