Obituary for Rose Marie Tehee

Rose Marie Tehee passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 at the age of 88 surrounded by her four children at Summit Pacific Hospital in Elma, Washington. Rose’s gave of herself unselfishly, loved all, embraced life’s challenges bravely and now rests in peace.

Rose was born in Memphis, Tennessee on August 28, 1928 to her parents John Auguste and Bessie (Wheat) Fontcuberta. Rose later lived with her mother in Denver, Colorado, Santa Monica, California and Phoenix, Arizona, where she graduated from Phoenix Union High School. While working at her parents’ photography studio in Phoenix she met her future husband, Eugene Tehee who was stationed there in the U.S. Army.

Rose later moved with her parents back to Denver, Colorado and Eugene followed her up there where they married on December 26, 1947. They briefly moved to Independence, Kansas where Eugene worked in the oil fields, but after about five months, moved back to Denver where Eugene re-enlisted in the Army Air Corp stationed at Buckley AFB, in Denver.

Their first three children, Stephen, Duane and Beverly were all born in Denver. Then Eugene was transferred to Clovis, New Mexico where their last and fourth child, Betty Sue was born in 1952. They also lived in Livermore and San Leandro, California and later San Antonio, Texas where Eugene finally retired from the U.S. Air Force. While living in San Antonio, Rose worked for several years in the Rhodes Department Store’s Household Goods department. Rose was a very smart woman, good with money and numbers and was an excellent saleswoman. In her free time she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, quilting and collecting stamps.

Following Eugene’s retirement, Rose and Eugene moved back to Denver, Colorado where they purchased a beautiful Victorian house close to downtown Denver where they lived for thirty years.

After Eugene’s death on February 15, 2004, Rose lived with her oldest son Stephen Tehee in Addy and later Elma, Washington. Due to Alzheimer’s, she lived the last year and a half of her life at the Beehive Memory Care facility in McCleary, Washington with Stephen visiting her several times a week.

Rose will be deeply missed by her children Stephen Joseph Tehee of Elma, Washington, Duane Odell Tehee of Woodinville, Washington, Beverly Ann Holdorf of Aurora, Colorado and Betty Sue Egan of Woodinville, Washington as well as her 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Rose will be inurned with her husband Eugene at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA at a later date.
