Obituary for Kathreen Fichtner (Floetke)

Kathreen Fichtner (Floetke)
Kathreen was born in South Bend, Wash., on Jan. 30, 1925, by a midwife. She lived in South Bend until she graduated in 1943, and then moved to Aberdeen.
At the same time as her move, she started working at the Boeing Aircraft Factory as a Rosie, until the plant closed down. She then worked in Hoquiam for the Long Foundry at Lambs Grays Harbor, making hand grenades until the war was over.
In 1948 she married Kenneth Fichtner in Aberdeen, Wash. During that time Kay worked at the Aberdeen Library.
Kathleen was active in her community; she made many friends and was always very active in her work.
In 1985 Governor Booth Gardner appointed her to the State of Centennial Committee, the Grays Harbor Division. She worked as the chairman of the Mural Committee, was definitely an implement to getting the ones painted downtown.
Kathreen loved her home and family and enjoyed her flowers and yard. But most of all she loved her church and the loving church family. Being active right up to her call from God.
Kathreen was preceded in death by her husband and three children. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Ann Swearingen of Shelton, Wash.; two grandchildren Adam and Karen Smith of Olympia, Wash. and a loving great friend John Hilliard also of Olympia.
We will be having a service for Kathreen on Saturday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at the Hoquiam Methodist Church. The service will conclude at the church with a reception to follow.
