Obituary for Wah Yen Wong

Wah Yen Wong age 101 died February 26, 2017. Wong was born on March 3, 1915 in Canton, China.

Wong joined the U.S. Army and served in the 14th Army Air Corp in 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. While in the Army he served with a Quartermaster unit in the China Berma India Theater. He made trips transporting supplies along The Burma Road from Calcutta, India to Kunming, China, base of the Flying Tigers. He was awarded 3 service medals. After the military, Wong moved to the Aberdeen area where he co-owned and operated the Ho Yon Café with his wife Linda until he retired in 1986.

Wong enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and gardening. He also stayed active in the American Legion and V.F.W.

Wong is survived by his son Gene Wong; son-in-law George Patrick; Grandchildren, Adam (Jane) Wong, Kim Cruchon, Edward (Anna) Patrick, Kevin(Angie) Patrick; Great-grandchildren, Kelsey Tikka, Marissa Austin, Courtney Cross, Michaela Patrick, Jerzy Patrick, Shyanna Patrick, Brennan Patrick; Great Great-grandchildren Taylor Daniels, Carson Daniels, Brayden Cross, and Leon Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Wong and three of their children Susie Lee, Don Wong and Pearl Patrick.

There will be a graveside service at Fern Hill Cemetery, Friday March 10 at 2:00pm. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Harrison Family Mortuary, 311 W. Market St. Aberdeen.
