Gary (G.I.) Stephen Irwin

Gary Irwin passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the V.A. hospital in Seattle. He was 60 years old. He was born October 7, 1948 to Bob and Ellen (Bavle) Irwin.

Gary was raised and attended school in Hoquiam, graduating from Hoquiam high school in 1967.
Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Army serving two tours of duty as a Door Gunner in the 173rd unit of the Airborne in the Vietnam War, and was awarded two Purple Hearts.

He was a member of the 40 et 8 Club of Aberdeen, the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Gary married Theresa (Teague) February 8, 2000. They made their home in Clearwater Wash.
He worked for the City of Aberdeen Water Dept. from 1976 to 2001.
Gary loved to fish, hunt, ride his quad, and take long walks with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa; parents, Bob and Ellen Irwin of Hoquiam, brother Pete (Jan) Irwin of Bellevue; sister, Barbara (Dan) Daniels; nephew Scott and wife Melissa; and great- niece Emily Daniels, all of Humptulips; stepchildren, Jim (Christina) Kost, and Jacqueline Kost.

At Gary’s request, there will be no funeral.
A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 15, 2009 at the 40 et 8 Club in Aberdeen.
