Obituary for Dale Wesley Gowan

Dale Wesley  Gowan
Dale Gowan, a life-long resident of Elma, WA, died unexpectedly on June 26, 2016 at the age of 58 while on a motorbike vacation in northern California.
Dale is survived by his wife, Debbie (Moe) Gowan; his children, Scott of Olympia and Steven of Seattle; his mother, Esther Gowan of Elma; his brother Jerry of Olympia and 2 sisters, Christy Correa of Olympia and Carol Salsman of Toledo, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Merle Gowan.
Dale was born in Aberdeen, WA on January 14, 1958 to F. Merle and Esther Gowan. He graduated from Elma High School in 1976 and Centralia College in 1978. After a brief time with WA State DNR, Dale went to work in 1980 for Grays Harbor County Forestry Dept. In 1988, Dale was instrumental in forming the GIS department and in 2001, became director of Central Services for GH County, a position he still held at the time of his passing. He married Debbie, his high school sweetheart, on July 7, 1978. In 1981 and 1985, he welcomed his two sons into their family, who were a very important part of his life.
Dale was a devoted father and an avid bowler, have been especially excited to have bowled 2 perfect 300 games as well as an 803 - 3 game series. He enjoyed traveling and in recent years long road trips with his wife on their motorbikes. He had been active in the Elma community over the years including 25 years as a volunteer fireman. His recent activity included being president of the Grays Harbor Bowling association and a member of the Washington State USBC Board. Dale will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A graveside service is scheduled for July 6th, 11 am at the Elma Masonic Cemetery, with a celebration of life to follow at the Elma Eagles. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Elma Fire Dept. Equipment Fund in Dale’s memory.
