Cora Lucille  Payne (Dibb)
Cora Lucille (Dibb) Payne passed away April 26, 2016 at Montesano Health & Rehabilitation Center at age 92. She was born to Frank H. & Olive F. (Hackett) Dibb in Winchester, England Jan. 21, 1924. Her father was a U.S. World War I medic who met and married Olive while stationed there. He eventually returned to Montana.
Cora married Kenneth Payne in 1942 in Winchester while he was serving in the RAF and had daughters Susan and Sally and a son Roger. After the war due to the shortage of jobs and housing, they emigrated to Hoquiam, Wash. to join her father Frank Dibb who had invited them. Ken found work at Rayonier and worked there his entire career. They were able to purchase a house in Aberdeen.
Cora had been an apprentice hairdresser for 3 years in Winchester so she went to Dewitt's Beauty school to get her American Hairdresser 's license and worked for Frederick's Beauty Shop and then got more training and became an instructor for Dewitt's and enjoyed teaching.
She joined St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was a constant attendee and volunteer there and was confirmed by Bishop Bayne with Norris Twitchell as her priest. She enjoyed getting to know her large American family as her father was one of eight children and she had many cousins.
She and Ken made many trips back to England to visit with the family there. She joined the English Brides Club in the early 1950s and had many treasured moments, support and friendship with them. She and Ken were busy grandparents and enjoyed it so much, welcoming always more as they came along.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband Ken; son Roger who died at 2 months; sister and brother-in-law, Sheilah and Dennis Finden; her brother Brian (Eileen) Dibb and her son-in-law King Karamatic.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Susan and Alan Marrs and her daughter Sally Karamatic; grandchildren Michael Marrs, Theresa (Aaron) Marrs-Hayes, Kristin (David) Jennings, Michelle (Jim) Hardy, Angela (Kent) Smith; great-grandchildren Crystal (Jeremy) Shiflett, Alana Marrs, Julia (Seth) Evans, Bailey Kelly, Shayla Kelly, Chandler Jennings, Alexandra Jennings; great-great-grandchildren Natalia and Haileigh Shiflett; step-grandchildren Brook Ritter and Nathan (Tillie) Ritter, Kasey Hayes, Megan Hayes; step-great-grandchildren Kai and Asher Ritter, Adrianna Hayes. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, and many loving cousins in England and the U.S.A.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 400 East First St., Aberdeen on May 21 at 1 o'clock. In lieu of flowers please donate to St. Andrew's Relay for Life or P.A.W.S., 800 West First St. Aberdeen or any charity of your choice.
