Patrick Dennis O’Connor Sr., a lifelong Aberdeen resident, passed away Jan. 4, 2016, at age 83. He was the son of William and Frances O’Connor, descendants of a prominent pioneer family on the Harbor.
Pat was born June 16, 1932, and was a Weatherwax High School graduate in 1950. He also attended Grays Harbor College and was inducted into the Choker Sports Hall of Fame for basketball.
Under the close friendship of Kearny Clark, Pat became a successful printer and purchased the Clark family printing business where he printed the newspaper Grays Harbor Post. In addition, Pat worked in the fishing industry and was a licensed card dealer.
Pat enjoyed crossword puzzles, cards, meeting his friends at the VFW and attending weekly Mass at St. Mary Church. He was known for his free spirit and was well liked by his many friends who meant so much to him.
Pat married Linda Wirkkala in 1953 and had five wonderful children. All his children were at his side during his last days as this was his final request.
Pat is survived by his sister, Marilyn Melart, brother Mike O’Connor and his children, Patrick O’Connor Jr., Kitty O’Connor, Tom O’Connor, John O’Connor and Ann Chancellor and five grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life on Jan. 16, 2016 at St. Mary Parish Center Aberdeen, Wash., from 2-4 p.m. for those who would like to attend.
A mass in remembrance of Pat will be said on Jan. 17, 2016 at 9 a.m. Donations may be given to the Cancer Society.
