Wayne Leon Jamison, 84, died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at his home in Montesano, surrounded by his loving and caring family.
Wayne was born on Oct. 26, 1931, in Wilsonville, Neb., to Viola and Marian Jamison. He was raised by his Uncle and Aunt, Elmer and Wilma Wilson, and attended school in Cambridge, Neb. He graduated in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1951. Wayne was stationed aboard the USS Perch at San Diego and was a member on the 1st Amphibious Recon Unit. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
Wayne moved to the Harbor area and began his career as a timber faller shortly thereafter. He married Genevieve Lee Burich on Jan. 21, 1956. He loved the life of a timber faller, cutting huge old growth timber during the glory days of the timber industry. Employing as many as 25 cutters at one time, Wayne worked with most of the Harbor’s timber giants before officially retiring in 1992.
Wayne was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He traveled all over the western U.S., Canada and Alaska on many hunting and fishing adventures with his family. As recently as September, 2015, he harvested a trophy Roosevelt Bull Elk in the Quinault Lake area. Nobody could match his expertise at plucking a big fat razor clam from the sand and he thoroughly enjoyed a day on Puget Sound fishing for Dungeness and spending the evening cracking crab and watch the Seahawks game.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jenny, and twin daughters Kelly Gradwohl (Jack) of Mukilteo and Shelley Willet (Noel) of Montesano and a grandson, Kyle Backholm and his fiancé, Mia Gribble, also of Mukilteo, as well as a step-sister, Judy Kay Brenke, of Tacoma. Wayne’s brother, Dean Loyal Jamison, and parents preceded him in his death.
There will be no service, however, the family would like to recognize the compassionate, considerate care that Wayne received at Providence Clinic in Aberdeen. He spoke highly of this nurses, Avi, Tina and Leah, and the entire staff there. A special ‘thank you’ to Tamara and the girls at the Aberdeen McDonalds who always greeted Wayne with a big smile and kind words when he met there with the weekly coffee group.
Wayne was a strong supporter of the Union Gospel Mission and, in lieu of flowers, a donation is suggested in his name.
