Obituary for Carmen Lavaun Johnson (Schlesser)

Carmen L. Johnson, 72, passed away Nov. 20, 2015 at her home in Brooklyn, Wash. She was born July 6, 1943 in Aberdeen to Matt and Marlyss (Durand) Schlesser. She grew up on a farm on North River, attended school there and graduated from North River High School. On July 22, 1961 she married her high school sweetheart, Russell E. Johnson. They had two sons.
She worked as a teacher’s aid at North River School for four years and in 1981 she started working for Shirley Patterson at the Montessori Pre-School in Aberdeen. Upon Shirley’s retirement, Carmen continued to run the school, retiring herself in the Spring of 2014.
Carmen was an active member of North River Grange, North River Food Bank and North River CERT; also a member of Grays Harbor Genealogy Society. Her hobbies were gardening, canning, quilting, crafting and genealogy.
Carmen is survived by her two sons Theodore W. of Brooklyn and Gregory D. of Leesville, La.; sisters Karen (Howard) Richards of Clayton, Wash., Marit Stanley of Deer Park, Wash., Haldis (Bob) Sholes of Brooklyn, Ladelle (Chuck) Henson of Lacey, Wash.; brothers James of Rochester, Robert of North River, David of North River and Dan of Aberdeen; also a half-sister Dorothy Tinker of Des Moines, Wash. She was preceded in death by husband Russell (2010) and grandson Aaron D. (1996).

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 at North River Grange in Brooklyn, with a potluck to follow.
