Longtime resident William “Bret” Ellis passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was 45.
Bret was born in Seattle, Washington on January 14, 1969 to William and Jeanette (Sorensen) Ellis. After living in Redmond, Washington, Bret moved to the Harbor in 1980. He graduated in 1987 from Aberdeen High School and in 1989 from Grays Harbor College.
Corporal Ellis was a 19 year veteran of the Aberdeen Police Department having served as a Patrol Officer, Detective and member of the SWAT team.
Bret was a veteran of the Navy, serving aboard U.S.S Okinawa during Operation Desert Storm.
Bret was an Assistant Cub Master in his son’s Cub Scout pack and was an Eagle Scout from Aberdeen Troop 5.
Bret loved boating with his family in the San Juan Islands, digging razor clams and salmon fishing on the Chehalis River in his red boat. Bret was an enthusiastic supporter of Melvins, an influential rock band with roots in Grays Harbor. Bret traveled to countless shows up and down the west coast over the past 25 years.
Bret is survived by his loving wife Becky of 18 years, his 12 year old daughter Molly and his 10 year old son Mason at the family home in Montesano, his parents Bill and Jeanette Ellis of Edmonds, Washington and his brother Joe of Portland, Oregon, and his family.
