Obituary for Kathy Mae Olsen (Vest)

Kathy Mae (Vest) Olsen was born on May 12, 1955. She lost her battle with cancer on July 31, 2014 at Providence St. Peter Hospital. As a child she attended Brady Grade School and was a Brownie and in Girl Scouts. She went on to attend Montesano Jr.-Sr. High School. Her Senior year she was voted “Prettiest Hair” by her class mates and also recognized as “Miss Smile” by the Montesano Vidette. She graduated in 1973 with Honors. After summer vacation she went to work for Preszler & Larner Accounting firm which later became Preszler, Larner, & Mertz. Kathy worked there for 38 years until she suffered a stroke and a heart attack. She married Nathan Elbert Olsen on May 15, 1976 at The Church of God in Montesano. Kathy was an active member of Olympic View Grange in Brady, holding the Secretary office for many years. She had attended several State and National Conventions becoming a 7th degree member several years ago. Kathy enjoyed her new home which was built in 2012. During her life she enjoyed reading, camping, gardening, ceramics, watching the hummingbirds that gathered around her feeders, and she especially enjoyed decorating the family Christmas tree. She also enjoyed her yearly vacations to Winthrop with Nathan in celebration of their wedding anniversary. She loved listening to modern country music especially artist Keith Urban. Her greatest recent enjoyment in life was being able to meet and hold her granddaughter Graycee.
Her parents, Troy Vest and Mary (Vetter) Vest both preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her sister, Mary Lee Richart, her brother-in-law, Thomas E. Richart and nephew, John Thomas Richart. She is survived by her husband Nathan Olsen who resides at the family home in Brady. Also surviving her is son, Kevin Nathaniel Olsen, his fiancé Leah Taylor and granddaughter Graycee Mae Ellen Olsen in Tumwater; daughter Brenda Kathleen Olsen, and her fiancé Jeffrey Baum in Lynwood; sisters, Lucy Vest, Judy Heath, brother-in-law, Steve Heath, nieces, Lisa Harner and Kendal Harner all of Montesano, and family friend Elizabeth Linville of Olympia.
Services will be held Friday, August 8th at Montesano Church of God at 11am followed by a graveside services at Satsop Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at the Olympic View Grange in Brady.
