Cherie (Junell) Vroman passed away on May 14, 2014, after a prolonged illness.

Cherie was born on May 12, 1947, in Bremerton, Washington, to Roy and Louise Junell. She graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1965, attended Olympic College, and graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics.

After graduation, Cherie worked for Ohio State University as a Home Economist in a nation-wide child nutrition survey in which she traveled the nation. Cherie also worked as a Home Economist for Puget Power and Washington Water Power. Later, when she moved to Grays Harbor, Cherie taught at Wishkah High School.

In 1973, Cherie married Rich Vroman in Seattle. On her way to the ceremony, she missed the ferry from Bremerton to Seattle and was an hour late to her own wedding. This being before cell phones, Rich was a little nervous she was not going to show. They did get married and were happily married for 41 years.

Cherie and Rich moved to Grays Harbor in 1977 when Rich took a job with the law firm of Ingram, Zelasko and Goodwin. Cherie substitute taught during their first year on the harbor before teaching at Wishkah. Although Cherie held a Home Economics degree, Wishkah did not have enough students to fill a full day with Home Economics classes. As a result, Cherie taught a range of courses, including PE. Cherie was not a big sports buff and so Rich had to teach her the rules of basketball so she could teach her students those rules. After having children, Cherie left teaching to become a homemaker.

Cherie and Rich have three children, Taylor, Jane (Wall) and Luke who survive her. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Carlson and John Roscoe Vroman.

Cherie was also very active in her community. She was a member of Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, PEO (AK Chapter), Young Mothers, Review Club and AAUW.

Cherie very much enjoyed her garden, traveling, her children and grandchildren. Cherie was also a great hostess and cook, and put together many impromptu dinner parties when Rich would unexpectedly invite friends over.

Cherie was also a wonderful role model for all around her, and especially her children.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Amazing Grace Lutheran Church of Aberdeen, Washington, PEO, the YMCA of Grays Harbor, and the Grays Harbor Community Foundation.

The family deeply appreciates the care Cherie received by Doctors Teveliet, Givens and Troeh and the staff of Grays Harbor Community Hospital and Pacific Care.

A celebration of Cherie’s life will occur at a later date at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by Harrison Family Mortuary of Aberdeen, Washington.
