Obituary for Rosalyn Inez Neet (Olson)

Rosalyn Inez Neet (Olson)
Rosalyn Inez (Olson) Neet recently passed away at home on April 26, 2013. Born on 5/28/1924, Rosalyn and her family left their home in Coleraine, Minnesota after the mining industry collapse. “I was four years old and squeezed between my older brother and sister in the back seat of a 1925 Liberty touring car.” Her father, Peter Olson of Sweden, and mother, Johanna Christine (Spjut) Olson took the family to start over in Grays Harbor and its logging industry. Despite arriving during the depression years, the family of eight thrived in the Wishkah Valley. “Though we had very little that money could buy, we had everything that money cannot buy in a clean green land and clean air and water, in a stable community of solid helpful neighbors.”
There were six siblings: Edith M Clark (D.10/2/02), Earling S (Ole) Olson (D.1/25/90), P. Leonard Olson (D.11/16/05), John W Olson, and Carol J Schroeder (D.6/4/08). Rosalyn attended Wishkah School for a couple grades, Robert Gray when it was on the Aberdeen Gardens Road, McDermott in Aberdeen, and graduated from Weatherwax High school in 1942 in a “wartime world”. She was a spare hand at Rayonier Paper mill, performing various tasks there six days a week throughout the war, attending business school in her spare time. Rosalyn also worked for the OPA-the Federal rationing program at that time. She saved enough money to buy her first car, a 1932 Chevy Coupe for $125.00.
Rosalyn met Gayle Neet (D. 10/1/05) at a mutual friend’s wedding and was married on 8/10/1951. Together they raised, Dennis, Jared, Sylva, Timothy & Andrew (D. 7/3/09). There are 13 Grandchildren: Amanda Eric, Ann, Danielle, Derek, Saige, Kohl, Kenzie, India, Suede, Imari, and Tommy, and 3 Great Grand Children: Braden, Kaylee, and Mason. Rosalyn loved being a mom, grandmother, and homemaker, and was a member of the Wishkah Homemakers for over 50 years. She loved all the arts and was a talented sketcher and writer. She wrote numerous well-reasoned Letters to the Editor over the years. Rosalyn was thankful for the time she had with friends and family and the opportunity to travel in the motorhomes they had for many years. The Olson family has stayed close over the years and have had many large gatherings, filled with food, fun and laughter. A Gathering is planned for all family and friends of the Olson’s on Saturday, May 18 at 1:00pm at the Aberdeen Museum of History, 111 East Third Street, Aberdeen, WA. Refreshments provided, and as is the Swedish tradition, it will be potluck! Salads or desserts of your choice would be most welcome! Ya.
