Obituary for Cecil Earl Elder

Cecil Earl Elder of Aberdeen passed away at Grays Harbor Health & Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. He was born September 29, 1917 in Racine, Wisconsin to Earl and Pearl (Cummings) Elder. The family moved to Grays Harbor in 1922 and he graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1937.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
On June 5, 1940 Cecil married Helen Thomas at the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen.
Cecil had worked for 30 years at Evans Plywood, retiring in 1982. He had his own tv/radio repair shop. He was a member of South Aberdeen Baptist Church, Aberdeen Eagles, SIGHT group, life member of the V.F.W., nursing home ombudsman and was also past president of AARP. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, camping, music, church activities and traveling.
In addition to his loving wife Helen, Cecil is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Jim) Price of Tacoma; Cecille (Don) White of Olympia; Joanne (Mike) Poitras of Aberdeen; two sisters, Dorothy Arness of Olympia and Eileen Clay of Shelton; 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cecil was preceded in death by a daughter Cheryl Elder and a sister Lois Helm.
He was a loving husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at South Aberdeen Baptist Church. He will be interred at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the South Aberdeen Baptist Church –Roof Project, 620 Fordney in Aberdeen.
Our Dad is with our Savior Jesus Christ. He was blind, but now he can see. Praise God!
